Greetings Headhunters, and welcome to another issue of
Rolling Thunder. There have been lots of changes at
Thunderhead and we have a lot to cover, so I’ll stop wasting
space with the introduction. |
Buy Beer.. Get Stuff. Rewards Cards.
We handed out a few Rewards cards to our staff this last
week to test them out. Everything has been working smoothly
and we’re planning a public release of the cards on Jan
15th.
Here’s how they work –
When you come in, just let your server know that you need a
Rewards Card. They’re a mere $1, or free if you’re a member
of the Mug Club. We’ll make sure that we have your correct
name and address (so you can continue to get newsletters!)
and get you a handy Thunderhead Rewards card you can show
off to your friends. Each time you come in, just give your
Rewards card to your server when you order. You will earn
points on each item you purchase – these points will
accumulate as time goes on. Those points can then be used,
with a $1 co-pay, to purchase just about anything we have.
As an added value for the Mug Club, hook owners will earn
double points. If you loose your hook, but keep your mug,
you still go back to normal until you can get a hook. There
are generally hooks available, but I imagine a waiting list
is in the Mug Club’s future.
Here is a small sampling of the items that you could redeem
your points for. All items have $1 co-pay. There’s a full
list of items available at the brewery. As an example,
purchasing a ping of Amber will get you 10 points; a Supreme
10” will get you 26 points - double those numbers if you’re
a member of the Mug Club!.
Item Points
Pint Amber 170
25oz Mug IPA 240
Growler Amber 340
Liter Honey Wheat 340
10” Chx Garlic Alfredo 400
Espresso Growler 510
10” Supreme 560
12” Thunder Pie 880
Thunderhead Hat or Shirt 1120
Balvenie 30yr double 4620
15.5 gallon keg IPA 11592
As you can see, we are covering a wide spectrum of items. I
didn’t know how appealing this promotion was going to be
until I used my card a couple of times. I didn’t actually do
anything special and I now have enough to get a $1 liter of
IPA. Kind of fun. Now I just need to get IPA back on tap

Guest Brewers
With the help of some guest brewers from ‘Modern Monks Brewing’ in Lincoln, we have put together a lovely Belgian Style Double.
This beer is just one of the many wonderful offerings that we have in the fermenter for the Holiday Season.

AHA membership Rally!
Been thinking of trying your hand at homebrewing? Brewing
doesn’t have to be hard, but if it were that easy it would
be a lame hobby. I really can’t say enough about how much
fun and how rewarding it is to turn boring old grain into
big fun beer. I would assume the same is true with fruit and
wine. The American Homebrewer’s Association is your one stop
shop for information and camaraderie with fellow beer and
wine enthusiasts. Membership includes sweet discounts in
pubs across the nation, six issues of Zymurgy magazine, and
best of all -admittance to the AHA rally held January 13th
from 1-4pm at Thunderhead. Bring your AHA card, or buy a
discounted membership at the door. If you have some home
brew you want to share, bring it along. Beer and snacks will
be provided.

Movin’ on Up
With nothing more I can teach our brewer, Glenn Casper, he
is venturing forth into an unsuspecting world of beer. Glenn
has secured himself a fine brewing position at one of the
most successful craft breweries in the country, Harpoon.
With volumes approaching nearly 150X that of Thunderhead, he
will be entering a new world of craft beer. Good luck Glenn,
do great things.
On the flip side, I’m back to making Thunderhead beer. It’s
been four years since I last brewed at Thunderhead. Don’t
worry. Despite rumors to the contrary, I have not forgotten
how. There are 1600 gallons of beer fermenting and the first
beer should be out by the 15th of January. While I will miss
Glenn’s beer, it feels good to be brewing again.
